ICP Furnace Not Heating

If your furnace is not producing heat, find out the common causes and solutions.

Defective Igniter.

The igniter gets very hot and glows as orange to light the gas burner. Your furnace will not be heated when it fails or cracks. So, you have to determine if the igniter is at fault, remove it and check for cracks. If you found that the igniter has cracked, you need to replace it. Also, check the continuity of the igniter with a multi-meter.

Flame sensor.

This sensor will monitor the burner whether it detects the flame or not. When the flame sensor is faulty, it won't detect the flame. If the flame sensor is not found the flame, then the control board will shut off voltage to the gas valve to prevent your ICP furnace from heating. Check if the flame sensor is dirty, clean it with an abrasive pad. Still, your furnace is not heating, you have to replace the sensor.

Control Board.

The control board is the source to supply power to all components of the heating unit. So, it will not transfer voltage to the ignition system if the control board fails. Failed board caused your furnace not to get heat.

Faulty Wall Thermostat.

The wall thermostat has electrical contacts that control the power supply to the unit. If the thermostat is at fault, then your unit not turn on. So, test the thermostat with a multi-meter and determine if it is defective. Replace it with purchasing Thermostat at PartsAPS.

ICP Furnace Makes Noise

Blower wheel.

This wheel helped to blow air out of the furnace and through the hose. You can find the blower wheel at the blower shaft with a set screw. The blower wheel will vibrate on the motor shaft if the fixed screw is loose, and the wheel will be noisy as it spins. Ensure that the set screw is properly tightened. After that, you have to inspect the wheel for damage. Make sure to replace the blower wheel if necessary.

Blower motor.

When the bearings in the blower motor wear out, the motor will become noisy. Some furnace motors come with lubricated. If your furnace motor is lubricated, you have to initially try lubricating. If it doesn't solve the problem, better to go with the replacement.

Draft inducer motor.

The draft inducer motor draws air into the burner and then drains the flue out of it. The motor would be noisy if the motor bearings are worn out. If it is unusually noisy for the draft inducer motor, it needs to be done replacement.

Draft inducer blower wheel.

Make sure to verify the blower wheel for damages like broken fins, separated center hub, etc. If you have concluded anything is going wrong, consult a technician or replace that with a new one.

Blower Not Running

Blower motor.

Ensure that the power is supplying to the motor. If the blower motor has power, but it doesn't operate, then consider that the motor might be burnt. Also, inspect the blower fan that moves freely. Any obstructions are there while spinning the fan, clean them. If all these are not causes and concluded the motor is burned out, replace it immediately.

The defective capacitor caused the fan motor to be noisy, overheat or not run at all. So, you have to verify that capacitor whether failed or not, checking for leaking or bulging with a multimeter.

Control board.

The control board should work properly to work your blower motor in the right way. As it supplies power to all components, make sure to verify the board is defective. Also, examine the furnace circuit breaker or fuse.

Furnace Blower Runs Continuously

The control board relays that regulate the voltage to each component in your furnace. When the relay is failed that controls the blower motor, it will supply voltage continuously to the motor. When the voltage is supplied without break, then the motor will run continuously. So, check and replace if required.

In addition, you need to check the wall thermostat. If the thermostat has continuity between the R and G terminals even in the off position, consider it is failed and need to replace.
